Outcomes Framework - Metric Modes
The Mirah Outcomes Framework supports two modes of metrics:
- Single-scale metrics are where a single scale is chosen, and the user can select very specific characteristics of that scale. For example, you can construct a metric where success is ‘more than 5 point change on the PHQ-9’.
- Multi-scale metrics are where multiple scales can be chosen, and success is considered on any of the available scales. The options for what is considered success is limited to what makes sense for all the available scales in aggregate.
Single-scale Metrics
What is a single-scale metric?
A single-scale metric is a metric which concentrates on one and only one scale.
For example:
- % of patients who have seen an improvement of at least 5 points on the PHQ-9.
- # of patients who have moved into remission on the CSSRS.
When you select a single-scale metric, you get access to all the available configurations for that scale.
This includes:
- Ability to set numerical target goals (e.g. 5 points on the PHQ-9).
- Ability to use all the severity levels the scale supports (e.g. mild, moderate, severe).
When should I use a single-scale metric?
- You have specific numerical requirements about what constitutes success in a Treatment Episode.
- You do not need to measure multiple dimensions at once.
Multi-Scale Metrics
What is a multi-scale metric?
A multi-scale metric is a metric where you can select multiple scales to monitor Treatment Episode progress across all of them.
For example:
- % of patients who have seen improvement according to each of the following scales: PHQ-9, GAD-7, and SFSS.
- Average time to respond to treatment episodes according to the PHQ-9, GAD-7 and SFSS.
Multi-scale metrics work as follows:
- Each scale has a set of parameters it supports - Treatment Episode Response, Remission, Numerical Scores, and Categorical Scales.
- The tool allows you to select parameters that are common to all the selected scales.
- For example, if all scales support a moderate severity, you can set it as a target.
Multi scale metrics are limited in the following ways:
- You cannot select precise numerical controls. For example, ‘a final score of 8 or lower’.
- Only severity levels present in ALL of the scales can be used for a Success Criteria. For example, if you have a scale with the PHQ-9 which supports None, Mild Moderate, and Severe as severities, and add in the SFSS, which supports only None, Moderate, and Severe, you will not be able to select Mild as a Success Criterion.
Try using these scales with presets.
