Feature Guide - Trial Mode

Why Does Trial Period Mode Exist?

When launching MBC to a new unit, it is not always either possible or a good idea to ‘hard launch’ to all patients simultaneously. Perhaps the clinicians want to try it on a couple of patients first, or they don’t want to have all the patients swamped at once while they work out the kinks.

Users need a way of turning on MBC only for a particular set of patients.

What does Trial Period Mode do?

Trial Period Mode is a switch which allows an organization to measure only the patients which have been explicitly opted in.

How does this differ from “Measurement Allowed”?

Setting “Measurement Allowed” on an organization to “Off” means that under no circumstances will patients be measured. Think of it like a breaker switch - nothing happens regardless of the settings for a specific patient.

“Trial Period Mode” will only work if “Measurement Allowed” is set to true. It allows measurement, but only when explicitly opted in.

How does this work?

Whenever an episode of care is created, it has its own ‘measurement allowed’ toggle, which determines whether the episode of care can be measured.

Trial mode changes the default of this toggle:

  • When trial period is on, new episodes of care in the organization will default to measurement allowed = false
  • When trial period is off, new episodes of care will default to measurement allowed = true.

Note that this only affects the default setting - you can manually change this at any point on the care episode page.

What Happens When Trial Period is turned off?

Trial Period only sets the default measurement allowed for new episodes of care. Turning it off will not by default change any existing episodes of care.

When you turn it off, you are given an option of enabling all existing care episodes or not.

  • If you select “Enable all care episodes” then all episodes of care will have their measurement allowed set to true.
  • If you do not, you will have to manually go back to each and every episode of care to enable it.

Once it is turned off, any new episode of care will have measurement allowed set to true
