Outcomes Framework - Treatment Episode Trend

Treatment Episode Trend only works for Numerical and Categorical Scales.

Some scales support the notion of meaningful change, or trend in Treatment Episodes. This categorizes each Treatment Episode with at least two data points into one of the following:

  • Improving - the patient has shown a meaningful positive change on the scale in question beyond that attributable to week-by-week fluctuations and can be considered to be making progress in Treatment Episode.
  • Declining/Worsening - the patient has shown a meaningful negative change on the scale in question beyond that attributable to week-by-week fluctuations and can be considered to have worsened.
  • Stable - the patient has shown neither a large positive nor a large negative change in score, and can be considered to be stable.

The definition of how to calculate this will vary on a per-scale basis. The most common framework is the Reliable Change Index (RCI), which calculates a point score beyond which statistically a meaningful change in underlying symptom severity is very likely. For example, with PHQ-9, a change of 5.2 points is considered a meaningful change.

The Mirah Outcomes Framework will automatically show you options for Trend if the underlying scale supports it.
